How long do I have to respond to a retrieval request?

Time limits for retrieval requests (i.e., inquiries) depend on the card network involved in the disputed transaction.

Under American Express, merchants generally have 20 days to respond to a retrieval request. This time frame may vary, depending on the issuer. In this case, the issuer is Amex.

Under Discover, merchants usually have 30 days to respond to a retrieval request. This time frame may vary, depending on the issuer. In this case, the issuer is Discover.

Under MasterCard, retrieval requests vary on a case-by-case basis, and the time limit is often set by the issuing bank.

Under Visa, merchants will have two seconds or less to respond to a retrieval request. The only solution to respond is through Real-time Resolution.
